Million Dollar Monday: Krisel For Sale in Vista Las Palmas – Palm Springs, CA

Here’s a little fun for your Monday – a million-dollar 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom Palmer & Krisel-designed Alexander home in the exclusive Vista Las Palma neighborhood in Palm Springs, CA. This 1960, 2,038 square-foot Krisel home looks out onto San Jacinto mountains with breathtaking views and boast an asking price of $1,250,000, including select furniture. Situated on a 11,700 square-foot lot this home evokes the classic, low slung Palm Springs post and beam architecture that Krisel was so well known for.

The proportions of this home hug the lot in which it sits – it’s not overpowering – it’s subtle, understated and appropriate for the site. The front is classic Palm Springs low-maintenance  desert landscape while the entry walk and drive consist of floating concrete pads. Decorative “H”-shadow block creates a stunning entry courtyard, adding privacy to the large living room windows which look out the street and mountains beyond.

Inside this home is definitely a show-stopper. The floors are light-colored ceramic wood-plank tiles which don’t overpower the space. The ceilings are signature-Krisel tongue and groove wood-beamed, carrying  through to the exterior of this home. The north wall of the living room is anchored by a massive fireplace, covered in one-inch mosaic tiles, and accented with a triple-light sconce.
The kitchen features upgraded cabinetry, composite counters and penny-round mosaic tiles, all open to the living and dining areas. The living room features over-sized sliders with unobscured views to the private backyard and pool. The bedrooms all feature large windows and clerestories offering unique views of their own. The bathrooms feature one-inch mosaic tilework and high-end finishes, and appropriate floating vanities. The only feature of question are the vessel sinks in the bathroom, which had their run in the early part of the century, and now may appear to be somewhat dated. Sink replacement should be a simple fix for this classic home and create an even stronger example of classic mid-century modernism.

The backyard features the classic 15’ x 30’ Alexander palm Springs Pool, several private patios, dozens of Mexican Fan palms and lush green grass. There’s also a fireplace wall, pergola and of course built-in bar-b-que, as well as in-ground spa. This would definitely be my top pick for a Krisel home for sure. Anyone got an extra million to lend?
