Two Bedroom Racquet Club Road Estates Palmer & Krisel For Sale – Palm Springs, CA

Currently available in Palm Springs’ Racquet Club Road Estates is this 1959 two bedroom, two bathroom Palmer & Krisel-designed home built by the Alexander Construction Company. This flat-roofed home still lies within its original 1,225 square-foot footprint and features an in-ground pool and two-car carport on a 10,400 square-foot lot with an asking price of $539,000.

Entry courtyard

The exterior of the home has great midmod curb appeal, with all of its original finishes and proportions still in place and uncompromised. There’s lots of original screen block out front, both enclosing the courtyard and as wall accents. The original two car carport remains relatively open, with horizontal fencing separating the front from the rear yard. The front yard is low maintenance, with a sculptural olive tree, tall palms and low maintenance gravel, while the front courtyard contains a small water feature surrounding the entry walkway.

Kitchen features added window above sink and large butcherblock island

Dining room sits adjacent to kitchen

Inside, the entry still features its original ¾ height wall separating the entry from the kitchen, with horizontal banding matching the fence detailing in the nearby carport. The kitchen has been updated with light maple cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, granite counters and a generous butcher block counter. The wall oven has been raised to a height and location reminiscent of the original oven height found in the original Racquet Club Road Estates kitchens.

Living room is anchored by the signature modernist stacked block fireplace

Living room features south facing corner windows allowing for natural light to flood the space

The dining and living rooms sit in line with the kitchen at the rear of the home, with large floor-to-ceiling windows and a slider in the dining room overlooking the swimming pool. The living room is anchored by a modernist stacked block fireplace, with original concrete block hearth still intact. Corner windows let additional light into the south-facing room, while naturally finished wood ceilings are complimented by limestone slab flooring.

The home started out life as a three bedroom, but has been converted to a two bedroom. The center 10’ x 10’ bedroom was removed, adding additional square footage onto the guest bedroom and creating a large walk-in closet for the master bedroom. The master bedroom sits at the front corner of the home and features a private patio accessed through a slider on the side of the home. Both bathrooms have been updated in a nondescript style that is functional, but not necessarily complimentary of the modernist architecture of the home.

The backyard features the original Alexander 15’ x 30’ swimming pool, a small covered patio and a checkerboard patio composed of concrete and exposed aggregate pavers. The remainder of the backyard features tall privacy hedges, mature eucalyptus and low maintenance gravel.

While the two bedroom floorplan may be tight for some, this Palmer & Krisel midcentury home has great curb appeal and appears to have been well-cared for over the years. Its ready to be enjoyed as-is or with a few minor tweaks could really pop as midcentury gem. Either way, it’s a fine example of Palm Springs modernism.
