It’s pretty rare that we get to see a midcentury modern home
outside of Palm Springs that’s well kept, chocked full of great vintage
features and still feels modern, but this is a great example of blending
vintage with new.
Built in 1960 by the Drogin Construction Company, this
Palmer & Krisel-designed home sits in the Point Loma Estates subdivision in
San Diego, CA. With four bedrooms and two bathrooms in 1,662 square feet, a two
car garage and a 9,700 square foot flat lot, the asking price on this home is a
reasonable $675,000.

Dining room overlooks back yard - check out that vintage pull-down light fixture |
The front of the home looks as fresh today as it did in
1960, with crisp white and brown exterior paint and towering palms welcoming
guests. The recessed entry leads visitors into the long, linear
living room with open beamed vaulted ceilings and signature modernist Krisel
fireplace anchoring the room. The dining room sits at the rear corner of the
home, overlooking the large, flat, grassy backyard. There’s also a great
vintage pull-down light fixture anchoring the room, adding a great retro touch.

Tile countertops and light fixtures are original |
Kitchen features large storage pantry and floating cabinetry |
Tucked off of the dining room sits the original, vintage
kitchen with updated stainless steel appliances and original unpainted
cabinetry. The counters are the original tile, and the floating cabinet divider
between the dining room and kitchen has also been in place since 1960.
Master bathroom features original vanity and medicine cabient - check out the sliding doors on the vanity - great feature! |
Guest bathroom |
The bathrooms are also vintage and original, with their
original unpainted vanities, marble countertops and classic American Standard
sinks. Original sliding medicine cabinets and wall heaters are also still
intact, all in fantastic condition.
Open beamed ceilings and clerestories are still in place in bedrooms |
Backyard is large, flat and grassy |
The bedrooms all feature their original, unfinished open
beamed ceilings, while the clerestories at the front bedroom are all still in
place. The backyard is deep, flat and grassy, backing up to an adjacent
multi-family property.
This is a fantastic midcentury home that appears to have
been well-cared for, well-maintained and hasn’t had the character updated out
of it.
