Sitting adjacent to the Sunmor Community in east Palm
Springs, CA is the neighborhood of Sunrise Park which features a several Palmer
& Krisel-designed homes mixed in with a variety of other mid century homes.
The homes built here are the same as found in Sunmor and nearby Ramon Rise,
built at roughly the same time in 1958 by the famed Alexander Construction
Company. This particular Palmer & Krisel-designed home features three
bedrooms and two bathrooms in 1,674 square feet, an in-ground pool and spa all
on a 10,400 square-foot lot with an asking price of $540,000.

Front stonework - check out that vintage light

The large circular driveway sweeps across the front yard
which consists of mature well-established traditional and desert landscape. The
front garage that once was on the north side of the home has long been enclosed,
and the connecting driveway long removed. This particular home features a long,
low A-roofline, with original natural stone veneer accents at the chimney. The
front door sits at the center of the home, and opens directly into the living
room.

Original stone fireplace in living room |
The living and dining rooms are open to each other, and
overlook the backyard and swimming pool. The east wall of the living rooms is
anchored by the original stone fireplace, which has a long, low hearth and a
thick brass fire screen. The Saltillo-tiled rooms feature the original open
beamed ceilings, which have had their beams painted turquoise for a
southwestern look. The former garage has been converted to a family room, which
is accessed through a large archway in the living room.

Kitchen features lots of black granite |
The kitchen sits tucked away and opens to the dining room at
the rear of the home, and features some older updates consisting of raised
panel cabinetry, black granite counters and backsplashes and black appliances.
Lighting has been added to the tops of the upper cabinets to illuminate the
room; it is unclear if there is any other illumination source for the room.

The two guest bedrooms sit at the front of the home and are
modest in size; the master bedroom sits at the rear and opens to the backyard.
Both bathrooms have been renovated in a very similar fashion as the kitchen,
with dark counters, raised panel cabinets and black sinks.

Pool at backyard |

Spa and patio at end of pool |

Large covered patio at rear of home |
A covered patio is attached to the rear of the home, providing
a space for entertaining adjacent to the large rectangular swimming pool. A
raised spa sits at the end of the pool, roughly at the center of the backyard,
and sits adjacent to an uncovered patio where a tent gazeebo currently sits.
The rear wall of the west-facing backyard is screened with tall shrubs, which offer
privacy and softens what would ordinarily be a blank wall.
This home appears to have been well-maintained over the
years and is in move-in ready condition, or ready for a modernist makeover to
return the home back to its roots. Either way it’s a great midcentury home in a
fantastic midcentury community.
