Home sits high and far off of Cranbrook Court |
Just about every alteration this home has had over the years
have taken it away from its mid-century modern architectural roots. The home
has sort of an English-cottage traditional style imposed on it. The home sits
far off of and well above the quiet Cranbrook Court cul-de-sac, and one
immediately notices the mullioned windows replacing the original open aluminum
framed windows and clerestories. All the clerestories in this home have been
covered and removed, which cuts down on the amount of natural light which
enters the home.

Living Room; Single fan window feels out of place |
|
Dining Room at rear of home - original clerestories would have let in lots more natural lgiht |
The living room sits at the front of the home, and is anchored
by the now-English-traditional fireplace and surround, flanked by two mullioned
windows, one topped with a unproportioned fan light. The open beamed vaulted
ceilings are still in place, one of the last remaining original elements of the
home. The dining room sits opposite the living room, at the rear of the home,
and opens up to the adjacent kitchen.

Kitchen and breakfast nook |
The kitchen matches the alterations found in the home, with
a coffered ceiling, Saltillo tiled floors, raised panel traditional cabinetry, butcher-block
and tile countertops and a mix of stainless steel and black appliances. There’s
a small breakfast nook and skylight above to help let in natural light.

Guest room with built-in shelving |

Master Bedroom |
A master suite and bath have been added onto the rear of the
home, which incorporates its own fireplace. The remaining bedrooms and
bathrooms remain in their original locations, and all reflect the traditional
decoration of the home.

Patio off of master suite |

Backyard |
|
Patio off of Dining Room |
The backyard contains several grassy areas and two separate patios,
one off the master suite and one off of the dining area. There’s natural
landscape surrounding the perimeter of the property, and large trees towards
the front of the property.
There’s lots of potential with this home to restore the
clerestories and original window configurations, as well as the fireplace and
surround, along with restoring the general modernist aesthetic of the home. It’s
in a great location and one of our favorite neighborhoods, and we hope the new
owners do great things with this property.
