Built in 1953 by Dunas, Greene
& Swidler is this early Palmer & Krisel-designed home in the Lurline
Homes subdivision new to the market. With three bedrooms and two bathrooms in
1,281 square feet on an 8,400 square-foot lot with an in-ground pool, this home
carries an asking price of $459,000.

Front of home |
The exterior of the home hides
behind lots of mature landscape and a lush, green lawn. The side entry detached
two-car garage is clad in board and batten while the exterior finish on the
home itself is stucco. The windows to the north of the front door appear to be
replacements, and their proportion is slightly off from original, with the
windows extending about three feet lower than originally designed.

Living room and sunporch addition |

Living room |
Inside, this early floorplan is
one that we’ve seen modified and repeated over and over throughout southern
California. The kitchen sits along the south side of the home, while the living
and dining rooms sit at the rear, and all three bedrooms are clustered together
on the north side of the home.
The living room is anchored by
its original stacked brick fireplace with clean lines and slim hearth. A small
sunporch addition sits off the living room, which changes the intended flow of
the room and eliminated what would have been a wall of glass overlooking the
backyard. The sides of the home still have their original clerestory windows,
and the open beamed celotex ceilings allow for light to flow through the rooms.

Breakfast nook - sweet vintage light! |
The kitchen still maintains its original
cabinetry from 1953 combined with updated countertops. There’s also a pretty
great collection of vintage 1950s light fixtures found throughout this home,
including the classic fixture found in the kitchen and breakfast nook.

Master bedroom with original bath |
From what can be seen of the
three bedrooms, they appear to maintain their original structure, with the end
rooms maintaining their signature original clerestory windows. Only a glimpse
of the master bathroom can be seen, but it appears to feature its original
vanity, medicine cabinet, and some great vintage swag lamps.

Pool and back of home |
The backyard features an
in-ground pool as its centerpiece, with a wide patio for easy entertaining
surrounding the pool. Neatly trimmed shrubbery surrounds the pool, along with a
handful of mature trees, giving the backyard a well-maintained and inviting
appearance.
This is a great example of an
early mid-century Palmer & Krisel tract home with lots of great original features
still intact. For those looking to polish up a gem, this home holds lots of potential.
I agree. You have made the nice blogs with the great info in the contents.
